Artist Bio
Librado (Lee) Romero, born in Los Angeles, in 1942, has been drawing and painting since childhood, exhibiting both photography and paintings in Europe, Mexico and throughout the United States.
In 1965, after art school in San Francisco, he enlisted in the U.S Army and while stationed in West Germany, he was assigned as the Regimental Photographer. This marked the beginning of his fifty-year career in photojournalism for newspapers such as the San Francisco Examiner, El Sol de Mexico, Newsweek and, since 1985, the New York Times where he became Chief photographer and was awarded a Pulitzer prize in 2002.
He retired from the New York Times in 2013 and he is presently spending his retirement painting full time in his Yonkers studio.

Artist Statement (about paintings things glimpsed from a train’s window):
“I’m not interested in details and I don’t really have the time traveling at eighty plus miles per hour, and that’s the challenge.  There’s no option but to simplify lines, making suggestions of things that you’re not sure of to begin with, and paint vibrant landscapes… Everything is fleeting and ever-changing.”
